Tourism As a Means For Economic Development in the Global South

Tourism should be recognized as an industry with great potential to bring economic development and alleviate global poverty. Benefits of a tourism sector primarily include economic growth. As per the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, a tourism industry will lead to increased job opportunities. Tourism will also lead to a robust exchange of goods and services which will lay the groundwork for increased entrepreneurship in destination regions. Additionally, a tourism industry will incentivize the public sector of developing countries to invest in sustainable and reliable infrastructure. However, for the tourism industry to reach its full potential, reforms must be made to ensure that development takes place without exploiting local communities and creating dependency.

The South Asian Immigrant Experience

The identity of the South Asian diaspora (which includes peoples claiming roots in India, Pakistan Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan), is highly related to the colonial practices of the United Kingdom. Tactics of divide and rule were meant to separate the peoples of South Asia in order to stop nationalism and in turn, revolts against British rule. This was not only highly effective but its effects are still seen on identity within postcolonial South Asia and as a result, the diaspora groups that left it. The diaspora cultural identities are divided by nation-states but they are still highly interconnected when it comes to politics. Identity in postcolonial South Asia and its diaspora is tied to religion, language, and shared kinship of events and tragedies related to those factors.

Her square spectacles added to the aura of wisdom which seemed to surround her, the papers in her hand fluttered in the breeze along with the frills of her blue dress.
The young woman sat next to me on the grass, flashed a warm smile and said,
“Well it is nice to finally meet you in person Amber, I'm Doctor Violet Hamilton, your new therapist.”

Educational Policy Proposal to Remediate the Racist Impact of Standardized Testing

“I can predict for you how well kids are going to do on a test, by and large, lower income kids are going to do worse, children of color are going to do worse,” says Jamaal Bowman, congressional representative of New York’s sixteenth district and one of the nation's leaders in the fight against standardized testing. Congressman Bowman had worked for ten years as a principal in the inner city and experienced first hand the ineffectiveness and harm of standardized testing, especially in schools that have a student body of predominantly racial minority students.

Climate and Conflict in the South Pacific | Exploring the Repercussions of Climate Change in Conflict and Resolution

For the majority of the world, when the South Pacific is discussed, what enters their minds is the thought of the populations that live in countries south of the Equator. For the communities that live in these countries, the South Pacific references the ethnographic regions of Micronesia, Polynesia, and Melanesia and the Indigenous populations that inhabit them. These populations are among the most vulnerable to the devastation caused by climate change, in fact, many of the consequences they exp
